Latest Stories About the Stone Community

Meet Our Seniors: Sophia K!

It’s hard for us to believe it, but it’s true: the Class of 2022 is only a few weeks away from graduating!  Over the next three weeks, we will be spotlighting students from the Class of 2022 – sharing their accomplishments, their reflections on their time at Stone, and their advice for future members of our community.

Sophia K., Case Western Reserve University

Where are you headed next Fall?

I’m heading to Case Western Reserve University to study Computer Science!

What are you most excited to learn and experience next year?

I am excited to study computer science and utilize the research opportunities that will be available to me. At Case Western Reserve University, there are resources that I look forward to getting to use, including the Sears think[box]. I can’t wait to fully apply myself in a place with so much room to grow.

What’s a project you feel particularly proud of from your time here at Stone?

I am especially pleased with my Junior Workshop project about trash management. I created an Instagram page, which included a plethora of information about trash, as well as quizzes for the public to test their own trash privilege and trash stewardship. The goal was to open the eyes of our community to ways that they can make simple changes in order to better steward their own waste. I am particularly fond of this project because I was able to make such a large assignment into something I am truly passionate about.

What accomplishment are you most proud of from your time here at Stone?

Through the United States Eventing Association, I was the 4th place Modified Junior Rider in the USA in 2020, and the 3rd place Modified Junior Rider in the United States in 2021. This was a huge accomplishment for me in my riding, and I am extremely pleased with the amount of work that I’ve put in to reach this point. Many major setbacks were thrown at me in the past few years and I could not be more thankful that I came back stronger each time.

What advice do you have for students just beginning here at Stone?

I would say that you need to embrace the nature of the work here. Fully apply yourself, work with your peers, take feedback, and always think about how you can make an impact, even beyond the Stone community.

And, just for fun: if you could pick one “walk-up” song for graduation, what would you pick?

Breakfast at Tiffany’s, a Morning Meeting classic from my 9th grade year.
